Retro Classics Spring 2011
Features
Great White – Spurred on by memories of the wide-arched circuit cars of the seventies and eighties, especially the mighty Thundersaloons, Fergal McGovern from Cookstown has created one very special Ascona, which is still one of the most dramatic-looking classic Opels around despite having been built thirteen years ago.
La Bella Giulietta – It has been said that, to be considered a true petrol-head, you should have owned at least one Alfa Romeo in your lifetime. Multiple rallycross champion Dermot Carnegie is one such petrol-head, as his Guilietta Sprint rallycar indicates.

Muscle-Bound – With a number of active clubs located around the country, the American car scene here is going from strength to strength. This time around, Retro Classics meet up with two members of the Great American Steel Car Club to check out what must be two of the most powerful classic muscle cars in Ireland.
Red Dawn – Declan Moore’s spicy 1977 Toyota Corolla caught our eye a while back, and Retro Classics recently caught up with him to talk about its transformation.
Hybrid Theory – This bright green Mini might look like a tastefully-customised stocker, but don’t be fooled; it’s half Mini, half motorbike!

Escort Service – When Seamus Cullen came across this very sound, low mileage Mk1 Escort 1300 Auto almost twenty years ago he wisely snapped it up, and has been steadily improving it ever since.
Different Strokes – As the Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth and Porsche 911 Carrera 4 demonstrate, there are a couple of very different ways to get to 165mph; but which one is best? We meet two owners to find out.
