Collection of a Lifetime
Some time ago by chance I got talking to Gerry Leigh, who told me of his extensive collection, so what better way to kick off 2012 than with a feature on his fascinating cars and motorcycles.
We sent Carl to take a look at what was in “the shed”, and we were not disappointed; Gerry owns no fewer than six cars, a pair of motorbikes and even a classic pushbike, all of which have interesting stories behind them. As for the garage itself, that’s another story again…
County Bounds
Top-quality County tractor restorations just keep on coming our way, and who better to send out to get the top shots but Andrew Pollock. This month he visits Denis Gleeson, who has saved a County 1124 from certain destruction.
It had been lying unused at a sawmill, and has been in the Laois area for many years; indeed it nearly meet the scrap heap in an accident in a forest some years ago. Denis tells Andrew the full story.
Super Comet
Stephen McEvoy really does dig out some great commercial features for us, and this one is no exception; a 1963 Leyland Comet belonging to Trevor Tate.
As a young man Trevor travelled with his father in a 1963 Super Comet, and when the opportunity came up to buy this one five years ago he didn’t have to think twice. This example is an ex-RAF vehicle, which was registered and based in Northern Ireland and, like Trevor’s father’s, is from the year 1963.
Tour De Force
Carl seems to have fallen in love with Japanese motorcycles lately, as this month he brings us another great feature bike from the land of the rising sun.
Like many of our features there is as much a story behind the owner as the vehicle itself; in this case, owner Willy Jackson was a telegram rider for P&T many moons ago. Since then his love of bikes has never dwindled, and Carl battled the winter elements to get us some great shots of Willy’s current machine.
