A Century of Ford in Cork

Perhaps the most momentous and far-reaching automotive event that Ireland has ever seen, the establishment of the Ford plant on Cork’s Marina marked the culmination of one man’s ambition, but the beginning of a nation’s association with a global success story. To mark the event’s 100th anniversary, we take four Cork-built Fords back to the site where they were born.

End of an Era

After buying his first vintage tractor in 2002, well known collector Andy Clancy from Rathowen in Co. Longford has decided to call it a day on vintage, and is selling his collection. Over the last fifteen years he’s bought and sold a large number of Massey Fergusons, some of which are in the collection of thirteen we feature this month.

One-Eyed Wonder

The history of TZA 238 is a far from conventional one, as this Irish-assembled Sprite was already a race car when purchased by current owner James Thacker, along with his cousin Edward, forty-seven years ago. It’s enjoyed plenty of race action, but a frightening accident at Silverstone in 1977 saw the damaged car stored away for almost thirty-five years. Now, it’s back and fully restored.

King Triton

There are literally a myriad of subgenres within the motorcycling scene, but the one that’s enjoying the largest resurgence in popularity at the moment is the cafe racer. Of those, the Triton is the most revered of all, and this awardwinning Dublin-built 850cc example shows us why.

Cream of the Crop

In this year of the 60th anniversary of the Ford Thames Trader we meet up with the Dromcollogher Heritage Association and their ’57 Trader-based mobile creamery, a unique part of our rural heritage that’s been beautifully restored by a loyal group of enthusiasts over a three-year period.
