Star Light

Star-LightOnce one of the most numerous family cars on Irish roads, the Starlet KP60 unfortunately went the way of most late-seventies and early-eighties Toyotas in the decades that followed, and today are very rare here. This unique, low-mileage gem has survived the last 39 years in almost completely original condition.

The Genuine Article

The-Genuine-ArticleWhen carrying out a restoration, most of us are content to source good-quality replacement parts to keep the costs down. However, for some, like Richard Doolan, only genuine or original parts will do, regardless of how long it takes to track them down. His very fi ne Ford 3000 is testament to this approach.

Cherry Treasure

Cherry-TreasureA vision in bright red, this beautifully-restored Mk3 Ford Escort occupies an irreplaceable position in the McKeown family from Co. Cork, as it represents a physical link to a much-missed son and brother.

Record Holder

Record-HolderThis little Holder A60 articulated tractor came to our attention when we covered the Vintage & Steam Woodworking Event at the end of May 2018 at AMS Tree Services in Ardee, Co. Louth (see report in next month’s issue). Where had this little baby come from?

Post-Haste

Post-HasteFamously sturdy, reliable and capable, the Heinkel Tourist made an ideal choice for the German Bundespost in its day thanks to a neat little trailer conversion. A memory of an earlier time, these postal scooters are a rare sight today, but one Dublin enthusiast has refinished this example to a beautiful standard.

Pole Position

Pole-PositionGerman for polecat, the Iltis is the Volkswagen that most people have never even heard of, let alone seen, even though three fi nished in the top four at the 1980 Paris-Dakar Rally. Maurice Walsh’s 1979 model is thought to be the only driving example in the country, and drive it he most certainly does.

Devine Intervention

Devine-InterventionIf it weren’t for the passion and restoration skills of Paddy Devine, this Irish-assembled, ex-Brittain’s demo Morris Minor would probably have been consigned to the crusher. Today, it’s a fine example of the original Minor model released in 1948, seventy years ago.
