Escape Hatch

Escape HatchThe car that brought Ford from the rallying seventies into the hot-hatch eighties, the Escort XR3 perhaps took longer than it should to reach the gates of official classicdom. Today it’s very much a collector’s item, and examples in condition like Paul McCormick’s are rare indeed.

Continental Drift

Continental DriftThe mechanical legend that is the Ferguson 20 has long been the object of both affection and fascination for farmers and vintage vehicle enthusiasts near and far. Christopher Spencer not only still owns the TEA20 he bought second-hand as a youngster in the 1970s, but has also restored an early Continental-engined 1947 TE model from very poor condition.

Minor Disturbance

Minor DisturbanceI was proceeding in a northerly direction along Letsby Avenue when I observed a suspicious-looking character lurking in the vicinity of a blue and white 1970 Morris Minor, which he claimed he owned. On questioning Robert Hoy, the fellow gave us this likely story…

The Lie of the Lanz

The Lie of the LanzWhen Wexford-man Mick Higgins made the kind gesture of loaning a fellow Lanz fan his tractor so that its rare loading shovel could be replicated, he never suspected that a secret plan would unfold to restore that same tractor while it was away. To say that he was blown away by the finished article would be an understatement.

Two’s Company

Two’s CompanyIt’s not often we get to photograph the entire colour range of a car or bike, but on this occasion we bring you the entire Yamaha AS1 colour offering, with blue and red being the only colour options offered. These two beauties have been refinished to new condition by two motorcycling buddies.

Win-Win Situation

Win-Win SituationIt’s rarely in this day and age that you’ll come across a situation that’s a genuine win-win for all concerned, but after their successful restoration and raffling o ff o f a Massey Ferguson 135 for charity last year, the Killarney Valley Classic & Vintage Club returned to the shed last winter for another fun-filled rebuild, this time of a classic Land Rover 90, which is still up for grabs.

Red Flag

Red FlagThis is the tale of the extraordinary efforts of several enthusiasts to, at different times over a period of about fifteen years, resurrect a sadly-neglected MG Midget. It was an expensive undertaking for all concerned, and a chastening experience for at least a couple of the owners, but finally there was the satisfaction that due to their combined efforts the little car lives on in the hands of another enthusiast, who appreciates its quirky road manners and its place in motoring history.
