Raising the Bar

The Jaguar XJ6 range rewrote the luxury saloon rulebook upon its launch in 1968, fi fty years ago this year. To mark the occasion, we bring together two of the most attractive examples of the breed in the country, to see what made them such a runaway success.

The End of the Line

After a long and proud history of tractor production stretching back to 1939, David Brown’s fortunes began to decline following their buyout by Tenneco in the early 1970s, leading to this famous nameplate being replaced by another Tenneco asset, Case, in 1983. The Commemorative Edition Case 1394 you see here marked the end of the line for DB and the start of the new Case era.

Class A

Nowadays the term “Class A” unfortunately brings to mind prohibited substances and all the negatives that go along with them. This, however, is an altogether different Class A, Opel’s first offering of the Manta and, an example that’s one of the most original around.

The Woolf Collection – Part 1

Having begun to keep his existing tractors from 1973 onwards, and going on to collect rarities and unusual machines thereafter, Co. Antrim’s Rory Woolf now owns what must be one of the most impressive collections of tractors on this island. This month, Sean Finegan takes us through just half of what he saw on his recent visit.

Boxing Clever

Enjoying a unique position in the world of motorcycles, BMW’s boxer twins have long been sought after as reliable and comfortable machines capable of far outlasting their competitors. Fr. Pat O’Neill is a life-long motorcyclist who has no doubts as to their merits.

In the Post

Retired telecoms engineer Brian Lacey had never tackled a full-on classic restoration before buying this 1974 Bedford van in poor condition, but it was worth the wait as, in its iconic P&T livery, it’s a conversation-starter wherever it goes.
