BALLYMENA STEAM RALLY

One of the highlights of the show calendar for steam and tractor enthusiasts in Northern Ireland is the TECU Steam Rally that takes place each year in the Ballymena Showgrounds. The event attracts enthusiasts from all over Ireland, and as well as the great steam exhibits, the stationary engine and working displays are also always a big hit. These photos are from the 2010 event, with this year’s taking place on the 15th and 16th of July 2011.

LIMERICK GRAND PRIX 2010

In 2010 a group of enthusiasts got together to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the 1930s Grand Prix held on the streets of Limerick, which was known as the “Round the Houses Grand Prix”. Irish Vintage Scene ran a feature on this event in its December 2010 issue (Issue 55), and here are some more photos from the event. To find out more, check out www.limerickgrandprix.com. The organisers hope to run this event again in 2011, and who knows; it may become an annual fixture.

WEST RUN 2011

The 2010 West Run attracted well over 100 cars from all parts of Ireland, bringing the participants from Galway City to Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare. The trip to Co. Clare provided some of the greatest views in Ireland, and many enthusiasts are looking forward to the 2011 event that takes place over the weekend of the 22nd to 24th of July; for more details, check out www.wvvmc.ie

UK NATIONAL TRACTOR RUN

Each year in England there is a national tractor run that brings hundreds of tractor owners together from all parts. This year the run was held in southern Wales, just a few miles from the ports of Pembroke and Holyhead; this provided the ideal opportunity for Irish tractor enthusiasts to take part, and Tony Doyle from Cork organised a trip for about 75 owners from these shores, while some others travelled independently. There was over 750 tractors in all taking part, and we ran a feature on this event in the July 2011 issue of Irish Vintage Scene. These pictures were taken by Noel Murphy, and were sent in by Tom Fitzgerald from the Rathcormac Vintage Club.
