Tractor Action Weekend in Aid of Irish Storm Victims

DSC_5995wb An inaugural meeting of the Tractor Action Tipperary group was held on Monday the 4th of January at Littleton, Co. Tipperary. The meeting was called by Michael Fahey of Thurles, who has been instrumental in organising many charity events in the past and recently donated a tractor from his collection for auction in favour of the flood victims. Following on from that success and the tremendous amount of support he received from well-wishers within the classic and vintage tractor movement throughout the country, it was decided to hold a series of events to raise further money for the flood victims, which can be used immediately by the Red Cross at their discretion. The Irish Red Cross have established a storm and flood appeal, in which they point out that: “Thousands of lives have been thrown into chaos by storms and floods that have swept across Ireland, some for the second time in a month. Homes and businesses have been damaged, goods destroyed and lives devastated by floods and gale-force winds. Since the first storm struck in early December, Irish Red Cross teams have been working day and night to help those worst affected.” The Tractor Action Tipperary Group is to organise fund raising activities on the 16th and 17th of January with the money being  directed straight to where it is needed via the Red Cross.

DSC_6063wb         Presently, two classic tractor and vehicle runs are planned in Co. Tipperary, with the message going out to other clubs and organisations asking that they join the Tipperary group in organising similar runs,  rallies or whatever other activity they feel appropriate. School non-uniform days, quiz nights, dances, cake stalls etc have already been suggested as additional means for collecting funds and are being planned. The Irish Red Cross are in full support of the the activities and will be providing posters, stickers, bucket wraps and first aid cover. Tractor Action Tipperary have a dedicated website on which all the latest news and a schedule of events will be displayed. There will also be tips and advice on holding activities and a general resource area for those who wish to help. It may be found at www.tractorauction.eu. The Tippeary group will be liaising with others in the country many of whom already have a Facebook page and these will be listed on the main site.
