We had known about the restoration of this stunning Hillman Avenger for a while, but when Tom came across it at the Kilbeggan Vintage Rally last summer he put his foot down and put the plans in motion to get it featured. The 1500 Super was a very rare sight in Ireland, as the vast majority of Avengers sold here were more basic 1250 models, and the fact that this is an early example built in 1970 makes it only more desirable again. As a first restoration it’s a case of ‘hats off’ to Gerard McLoughlin and his father, Frank, as even though they got assistance on the bodywork side of things it still shows what can be achieved with a bit of patience and hard work, as Andrew finds out.
