The April to June issue of Retro Classics Magazine is now on sale, and as always is packed with features and event reports from the world of classic, retro and motorsport cars in Ireland. On the cover this time is one of the most amazing Opel Mantas that you’ll ever see – even though it’s been built for a few years now, this 1985 i200 still impresses wherever it goes thanks to its turbocharged sixteen-valve engine, carbon-fibre-laden cabin, original works roll cage and general technical wizardry. We also look at two beautiful classic pickups that have been tastefully modified by their owners – a VW Caddy and a Mini – while on a motorsport theme we check out two delectable Escort RS1800s that will be part of the 40th anniversary line-up for Mk2 Escorts at this year’s Loughgall Festival of Motorsport. A period-modded Sunbeam Alpine also features, as does an Abarth-tweaked Fiat 850 Sport, while we also take a trip to Tallaght Powder Coating with a set of our own wheels to check out their refurbishing service. Event-wise we’ve the whole island covered, from the Killarney Historic Rally to the Derek Walker Trial, and we also run you through the ins and outs of buying yourself a classic Mini. Add to all this our Club Scene section, News & Products and Diary Dates listings and you’ve got another jam-packed issue.

On the cover is a beautiful 1970 Mini Cooper S, an original Dublin car that’s come in for some very subtle upgrades during its recent extensive restoration. A well-engineered VW Beetle with a 2.5-litre Subaru engine also features, as does a stunning Lotus twin-cam-powered Mk1 Escort. For competition car fans there’s a feature on one man’s collection of Hillman/Chrysler rally cars (and his Avenger estate ‘service wagon’), and speaking of wagons we also take a look at a 1963 Consul Cortina estate that’s been brought up to 1500GT specification. A crazy Hayabusa-powered Stryker kit car  … [read more]

COVER-13The April to June 2014 issue of Retro Classics Magazine is now on sale, and as always is packed with some of the finest retro and classic cars in Ireland. On the cover is one of the rarest BMW E30s in the country; the Alpina C2 2.7 doesn’t exactly grow on trees, and so this Touring estate version is a very unusual sight indeed. As it’s too good to use every day, owner Davy Salley also runs us through his daily driver E30 saloon, which features a stealthy 2.8 conversion and widened steels. A seriously reworked C3 Corvette Stingray also features in this issue, as does another classic American in the form of a ’54 Chevy pickup, but one that’s a whole lot more subtle than our air-ride cover truck last issue! For Ford fans we’ve two beauties in the form of a mild custom Corsair V4 and a mint, stock Mk2 Escort RS2000, while a home-restored VW Beetle and a race-style Hillman Imp lead a rear-engined onslaught… [read more]
