Mizen V Malin: two teams, two start lines, one finish line. Who gets to Dunmore first? This summer, Dunmore Vintage Club are hosting this unique vintage tractor race with two start lines – one in Malin Head in Co. Donegal and the other in Mizen Head in Co. Cork.
Fundraising for Autism Ireland, the race starts on Friday afternoon, August 5th, with 100km to cover to get the teams to Omagh and Macroom respectively for their overnight stops. On Saturday night, August 6th, both teams will reach the finish line in Dunmore, Co. Galway around 8 or 9pm, followed by a celebration in the town as part of the big night of the Dunmore Annual Festival.
With a maximum speed of 25km/h (approximately the speed of a Massey 135) the race won’t be topping out any speed limits, it’s all about minimising unplanned stops and maintaining an average speed to get the complete team across the finish line in Dunmore first. Race on!
