Each year fans and owners of the cars, vans and motorcycles built by innovative German manufacturer DKW meet up for their European treffen. DKW Club Austria were the hosts for 2022, in the town of Ybbs in July, during which there was much chat about how pleasant and successful the last Irish treffen had been, back in 2016. On their return to Ireland, members of DKW Club Ireland duly got their organising caps on, and have announced that the 2023 treffen will be held here from the 14th to the 19th of May next.
The Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone has been chosen as the base for the event, as the town is centrally located in the country and therefore accessible for all enthusiasts, while the early summer date should also mean that accommodation and ferry prices should still be reasonable. There’s already a long list of attractions being compiled to visit over the course of the event, including Kilbeggan Distillery, Clonmacnoise, Birr Castle, Derryglad Folk Museum and plenty more, so a great week of exploration and fun is guaranteed.
An accommodation price of €50 B&B per person sharing has been agreed with the hotel, and there is no entry charge for the event, which is open to all Auto Union, DKW and Audi cars over thirty years old.
