Description

The November 2015 edition of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 114) is on sale now, and as always is packed to the rafters with top feature vehicles and show reports from all around Ireland.

On the cover this month is one of the most popular classic cars out there. The MGB Roadster has been a favourite ever since its launch 53 years ago, with its oh-so-sixties styling, simple mechanicals and involving driving experience being key attractions. The stunning 1966 Mk1 we showcase in this issue is a perfect example of how good they can look, as it’s come in for some serious detailing attention from its owner. Our second feature car is one from a very different era, but is a model that’s highly-recognisable by everyone on the road and well-recognised by car enthusiasts the world over – the W126-series S-Class literally redefined the luxury saloon market when it hit the showrooms in 1980, with previously-unseen levels of refinement, performance and safety. The five-litre V8 500 SEL long-wheelbase was one of the picks of the range, and this month we feature a beautifully-original model that’s been in the one family from new. And, in another of our new restoration series we bring you the first instalment of the resurrection of a rusty and incomplete Morris Minor van.

Our main tractor feature this month tells the story of an early Massey Ferguson 135 that’s been in the same ownership for some thirty years. In fact, the current owner rebuilt the engine for the previous keeper even longer ago than that, but having seen little use since it’s still in very good running order! However, the bodywork and cosmetics came in for serious attention a few years ago, leaving the machine in very impressive order. Our second tractor is a very different model, a 1957 Porsche AP22 that was bought to rekindle the owner’s memories of two similar Porsches that worked on his family farm in his childhood days. What’s more, attached to the drawbar is a period trailer with a local history.

Moving to two wheels, our featured motorcycle this month is one of the raciest machines you could have laid your hands on in the 1920s; the Norton CS1 featured a thumping overhead-cam engine while most were still pottering around on sidevalves, and it was born and bred for the track. The example we bring you this month was owned and raced by the current owner’s uncle in the fifties, and has become a treasured family heirloom since then. Rounding off another highly-varied issue, our featured commercial vehicle is a now-rare long-wheelbase Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 bought new by the Office of Public Works in 1982, which was driven into the ground during its working career only to be restored extensively by the current owner from 2006.

A massive range of event reports this issue stretch back over the last few months and include the IVVCC Gordon Bennett Rally, the RIAC Pioneer Run, the Kilbroney Vintage Show, Trim Vintage Show and many, many more, and with all of the usual attractions in there too, plus a new monthly slot, you won’t want to miss the November 2015 issue of Irish Vintage Scene; get yours today!
