Description

The January 2017 issue of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 128) is on sale now. It’s been a year of anniversaries, and this month we round off 2016 with one of the most talked-about; the Mk2 Cortina was a hugely important model for Ford when it replaced the first generation of one of its big sales successes here, fifty years ago. Countless families still hold fond memories of the faithful Cortina, and the model we look at this month is thought to be the oldest Irish-built example in existence. And, we take a quick look at a radically shortened, but beautifully finished, Mk2 as something a little different from the norm. We also feature another saloon car celebrating a birthday this year, namely the Mercedes W123, this one being a one-owner car that’s covered over 450,000 miles in its time.

Moving to tractor features, our first is one that you won’t forget in a hurry – this Co. Cork Fordson fan has created what can only be described as monstrous creations from his Majors. As an example, how does a three-engined, six-wheeled Fordson Major grab you?! We come back down to earth with a feature on one owner’s pair of rare (in this country) Volvo BM 650s, which share a military heritage. Our feature motorcycle is an unusual Ariel SS Arrow that’s been in the same ownership for about 35 years, while our commercial feature looks at a recently-restored ex-ESB Bedford HA van, a little machine that’s bound to bring back memories for many readers. Our long list of show reports includes the Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival, Kilkenny Motor Club Show, Greybridge Harvest Day and more besides, and all of the usual favourites are in there too, so don’t miss out – get your January 2017 issue of Irish Vintage Scene today!
