Description

POPULAR VOTE: A true heirloom, this Ford Popular 103E has been in the same Kerry family since it was bought new in Killarney in 1953. Almost sixty years on it’s still going strong thanks to a recent rebuild, as Andrew Pollock discovers.

BUILT IN BUNCRANA: In 1981 hopes were high for the Donegal-built ATW Chico utility vehicle, but sadly the project was not to end in success. This month Andrew Pollock tracks down one of the few surviving Chicos to see what might have been.

MODEL-T MOTORING: John Hendy’s Ford Model T is his pride and joy, and this year is 102 years old. Nonetheless it drives as well as it did the day it rolled out of the factory, as Justin Roberts tells us.

WEEKEND TRADER: The Fordson Thames 4D model has appeared in these pages on a number of occasions, and for good reason; they were a very highly-regarded hauler in their day. Niall Condon certainly shares that sentiment, as his freshly-restored example displays. Andrew Pollock brings us the story.

A PRINZLY COLLECTION: Norbert Sheerin brings us the story of a car collection with a difference; NSUs aren’t very common on the old car scene here, but Jim O’Sullivan from Dublin has a number of rare examples in his collection including a rotary-engined Spider and a Sport Prinz coupe.

STEYR CRAZY: We’ve all heard the term ‘rescued from the brambles’, and in the case of this Steyr 185 tractor it couldn’t be more apt. It joins a number of other Steyrs in the collection of Tony Dermody, who has a real fondness for this German marque.

HILLMAN HUNTER GLS VS FORD CORTINA 1600E: This feature from John Cradden does what it says on the tin; comparable rivals in the sixties and seventies, the Rootes Group sports saloon goes head to head with Henry’s finest small luxury car of the time.

HOME, JAMES…: Bill Forsyth first rode the subject of this feature, a James Captain motorcycle, in the early eighties, and has now given it a very good home following the recent passing of its previous owner, as Cliff Donaldson tells us.

FARMALL FRIEND: Andrew Pollock heads to Cavan to meet up with Tom Cunniffe, who was spurred by memories of his father’s old Farmall Cub to find one of his own in recent years.

EVENT REPORTS: Event reports from the Slieve Donard Car Show, Inistioge Vintage Rally, Ulster Historic Rally 2010, Stradbally Steam Rally, Fenagh Vintage Rally, Lisdoonan Vintage Show 2010, Lissan Parish Vintage Harvest Day, North Meath Vintage Club Field Day, Armaghdown Vintage Club Rally and the Tipperary Veteran & Vintage Run.
