Description

The June 2016 issue of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 121) is on sale now, and not only is it packed with top feature vehicles and show reports from all around Ireland, but it’s also a rather special edition as it marks the tenth anniversary since our first issue hit the shelves back in May of 2006! To mark the occasion we’ve a competition on page 20, with some great prizes up for grabs.

This month’s cover car is a real all-rounder, if ever there was one; this stunning Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior combines classic Bertone styling with everyday usability and race-track performance thanks to a whole raft of upgrades, masterminded by its knowledgeable owner, a serial Alfa restorer who knows all the performance tricks. They say that “knowledge is power”, and with 210bhp now on tap, it’s certainly the case here! Our second car feature is more sedate, concerning a pair of Mk2 Ford Consuls that have become the centre of everyday life for their owners, having been restored to provide the perfect transport for a recent family wedding.

Our main tractor story this month showcases one of the most beautiful tractors we’ve ever featured – this 1973 Volvo BM T650 is not only a very rare sight in Ireland, but it’s also a low-hours ex-Swedish military example that’s been stunningly refinished and is sure to impress anyone that sees it. That’s not to take anything from our second feature tractor, a now relatively rare Leyland 262, as it’s been restored by a seventeen-year-old enthusiast as his second project!

Our feature motorcycle this month is something we can call unique without fear of contradiction, as the owner of this 1944 BSA M20 military machine has designed and built his own sidecar for it. It might have been made from recycled bits of various other vehicles, but it certainly doesn’t look it and this combination has really wowed the crowds at shows over the last couple of years. Rounding off another busy issue, our commercial vehicle feature is the lovely story of a genuine Irish 1969 Ford Escort van that went off working in England, only to return, be restored and eventually reunited with its old showroom in Co. Kildare. The list of show reports includes the Tipperary Vintage Rally held on Easter Sunday, the Copper Coast Challenge in Co. Wexford and the Swords Classic Car Show, Sale & Autojumble, and all of the usual favourites are in there too, so don’t miss out – get your June 2016 issue of Irish Vintage Scene today!
