Description

The August 2016 issue of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 123) is on sale now, and features a very special cover car. Not only is this 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL a beautiful, original-Irish example of a very sought-after model, but it enjoys a very special history as it carried Irish Olympic star Ronnie Delany on his triumphant parade down Dublin’s O’Connell St upon his return from the 1956 Melbourne Summer Olympics. In an Irish Vintage Scene exclusive, we reunite Ronnie not only with the car, but also the man who drove it that very day. Our second car feature continues with a German theme, as we bring together four BMW ’02 models to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the car that famously saved the Bavarian carmaker in the sixties and seventies.

Our main tractor story this month is a tale of long-term ownership, as this very rare 1953 Allgaier AP22 has been in the same family since it was four years old. Our second feature tractor, the unusual little Winget 42, is even rarer, one of around 500 built! Our motorcycle feature looks at the story of two big classic Suzuki two-strokes, while rounding off another busy issue is a Bedford TK that was bought to rekindle its owner’s fond memories of the model from back in the day. Our list of show reports includes the RIAC Pioneer Run, Shane’s Castle Steam Rally, the Gordon Bennett Irish Classic Car Run and plenty more besides, and all of the usual favourites are in there too, so don’t miss out – get your August 2016 issue of Irish Vintage Scene today!
