Description

The November 2017 issue of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 138) is now on sale, and is an unusual issue in that no less than two of our three featured cars are ex-Garda vehicles! For our cover story we mark the 50th anniversary of the Vauxhall Victor FD series by visiting an enthusiast with a long-standing interest in the model, having bought one brand-new in 1967 after a case of love at first sight. Today, he owns a lovely Victor 2000 as well as our cover car, an extremely rare Victor 3.3 manual that was a Garda car from new. From a different era (that of the Irish Free State, to be exact) comes our second car feature, which looks at a 1923 Model T Ford that was a Dublin metropolitan police car in the days before the formation of the Garda Siochana we know today. Our main feature tractor this month is a Fordson that’s both familiar and unfamiliar, being basically a New Performance Super Major but in an unusual colour scheme and badged as a 5000 Super Major Diesel as it’s a rare, unrestored Canadian-market model. Our second tractor feature looks at a beautifully-restored Ford-Ferguson 9N from Derry that boasts unique potato-harvesting attachments fabricated by the owner’s father in the 1960s. Our motorcycle feature this month outlines the resurrection of an Ariel Arrow Super Sport, while our commercial feature tells the story of the epic restoration of an Irish-manufactured 1979 Dennison 265 truck. Our event reports include the Kilbroney Vintage Show, Ford 100 Fest in Ballinascarthy, Ulster Festival of Steam & Transport, we’ve a one-off article on the history of Aston Martins in Ireland, there’s a competition to win a weekend at the Fitzgerald Woodland House Hotel in Adare, and all of the usual favourites are in there too, so don’t miss out – get your November 2017 issue of Irish Vintage Scene today at any good newsagent, or order here online!
