Irish Vintage Scene Issue 216

Heading up the June 2024 edition of Irish Vintage Scene is an eye-catching Vauxhall Viva HC in bright red, which holds a special place in its owner’s heart as it was his first car back in the nineties, when it was already a classic. Even though it had been sold off decades ago, man and machine were reunited again in the last few years, and it’s been treated to a full restoration back to its former glory. Our second feature car is also a restoration tale, but a bit of an epic by all accounts, as this extremely rare 1928 Armstrong Siddeley 12hp coupe has sat around waiting for attention since the early seventies. An original Irish car from new, and sold at a dearer in Co. Limerick, it’s been worth the long wait, as over the last decade it’s been rebuilt to an incredible standard from derelict condition.

This month’s featured tractor is an unusual machine that you won’t come across often. This BMB President garden tractor was picked up as a long-abandoned project missing its engine and many other hard-to-find parts, leading its owner to come up with inventive solutions to bring it back to life. Our featured motorcycle is a beautiful BSA Bantam post office bike from the 1950s, and our commercial feature tells the unique story of an unrestored 1986 Toyota LiteAce that was rescued from a shed in Dublin, where it had sat with low mileage for twenty years after its first owner passed away shortly after its purchase. Lots of the usual favourites are in there too, so don’t miss out!

RETRO CLASSICS ISSUE 53 APRIL-JUNE 2024

The April to June 2024 issue of Retro Classics is now on sale at good newsagents nationwide, or direct from us by ordering online quickly and conveniently, and as usual we’ve another exciting line-up of very special cars for you. Heading up this issue is a home-built Ford Capri that boasts lots of performance and unique touches – despite its appearance it’s actually a 1975 Mk2 that’s received a Mk3 face-lift as well as a Focus ST170 engine and a turbo conversion for good measure, pumping out 320bhp for some serious fun behind the wheel.

Further into the mag, we feature another incredible blue seventies coupe, this time an Opel Manta A that’s got a twin-turbo Jaguar V12 wedged under the bonnet – yes, you read that right! We also bring you a stunning example of the ultra-collectable Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition, a rare Hillman Avenger Tiger Series 2 that was restored from a crumbling wreck, and a unique Ford Prefect/Reliant Scimitar rat-rod that’s like nothing else on the roads of our little island.

Event reports in this issue come from Autosport International 2024, Retro Stock, the VAGE Mk2 Meet, Gerard Murphy Memorial Run, Galway International Rally, Ronnie Trouton Autotest, the Killarney Valley Classic & Vintage Car Show, ALMC Winter Endurance Trial ’24 and the Edgewood Automotive Cars & Caffeine Meet. All of this comes along with our regular detailing guide and a look back at the often-quirky car ads of decades past, so don’t miss out!
